´Kitezh and ´Orion: a summary of 2009

With the new year already upon us, it is an important time to recollect what happened here in 2009. A lot went on…

1. A small farm was established, home to two cows. As of February, there are now a further two calves. For already over half a year we have been drinking our own ‘Kitezh’ milk.

2. In Orion we have a small collection of goats, who also are producing delicious milk.

1. In Kitezh we now have three large greenhouses – we plan to get them up and running by spring. Our target is to independently produce our own vegetables and greens.

4. The Kitezh school SUCCESSFULLY passed the routine government accreditation – we are continuing to give the children a quality education!

5. On 3rd March Masha and Misha Shurov gave birth to a son, Lyubamir, who is the third child to be born in Kitezh.

6. NEW CHILDREN – This summer Tamara Pichugina took a young girl, Katya, into her family. Katya is seven-years-old, bright and interesting; Yulia Khlopenova took two brothers into her family – Danil (aged 3) and Dima (aged 7). Maria Shibaeva took a boy, Vanya, aged 7.

7. From December all homes in Kitezh began to be heated by GAS: now we are able to economize time, money and resources.

8. At the end of the year, children in Kitezh elected their SMALL COUNCIL. This was the children’s initiative; they took part in active preparation, campaigning, and writing a programme. Those elected following the democratic vote are responsible for the children’s politics, leisure and culture for the whole of next year.

10. Orion is now TWICE AS BIG, thanks to the arrival of three families (from Voronezh, Smolensk and Saint Petersburg), who have been fostered by Yulia Khlopenov and Maria Shibaeva. The structure of the organization has become more complicated, and life has become more intensive and full: a more complex and active development.

11. Work took place in Orion this summer to build five new homes for foster families.

12. Several graduates of the Kitezh school have entered higher education institutions in Kaluga and Moscow: Lilya Logacheva, Roma Azamatov and Zhenya Sinko.

It feels as though this year has been very intensive. We are continuing to develop in most varied ways, and we never forget our purpose: the welfare of intelligent, educated and open children.
