Kitezh newsletter – Janvary 16th – February 4th
Hello, dear friends! Here we are again, your forgetful but nevertheless friendly bearers of Kitezh news!. Apologies for the small delay, but here we are once again ready to share all the Kitezh news with you!
The main event, which totally changed the dynamic of Kitezh’s population, was the beginning of the university holidays. Our old friends, Natasha Gorelova, Kolya Dementjev, Vanya Nazarov, Dasha Saprikina and also Kitezh graduate Valya Khanukhina, came to Kitezh, hot on the trail of new adventures! They fitted very naturally into the rhythm of daily life, gave Kitezh teachers a bit of a break, by taking some lessons, increased our productivity and effectiveness with their new energy, and introduced a touch of healthy madness into our peaceful lives. The students stayed for two weeks in total, and as Sergei Khlopenov put it, ‘It will be strange when they leave next week.’ (Let’s hope they come back soon!!)
However, the seasonal migrations didn’t end with the students’ departure, in fact, that was just the beginning. Last week we had the Small Council (Roma Azamatov, Slava Klimov and Zhenya Sinko) left for a stay in Orion. The aim of this was to have a change in environment, to shake-up the Orion children, to help the adults there, and to participate in helpful discussions about how best to organize children’s activities in Kitezh. Their triumphant return signaled the happy departure of the next group – Nellie, Katya, Sandra and Sasha, our sixth class – who went to Orion for intensive lessons in Russian language and literature with Zhenia Ryazhskaya. As a result, they improved a lot in Russian - which finally seemed like it was their native language! - and caught up with their friends in Orion.
Anyway, moving on… We had a new face in Kitezh during the holidays: that of Aleksander Venediktov, who had heard about Kitezh through Andrei Konstantinov, and came to see what the place was like. He stayed for several days, helped us with our work, and offered to help us in Moscow in whichever way he could.
Kitezh has again found itself riding a wave of television and radio interest. Sergei Khlopenov took part in the talk-show ‘Energetic People’, where they were discussing the Eco-villages of Russia. All the Kitezhans watched the show and were very proud of Sergei and of Kitezh. Sergei (our new media star) and Masha Krivenkova left for Moscow to take part in the broadcast ‘Address of Mercy’ on the station ‘Mayak’. So, the following week, it was Maxim, Valya Kanukhina and Vanya Nazarov who took part in the programme ‘Postupok’. We will announce the dates and times of these programmes on our website.
Next, Kitezhans were taken aback, when the long-awaited snow finally arrived, and arrived in ENORMOUS quantities. But we have realized just how much more natural a snowy winter looks to us!
And finally, the serious bit… The Kitezh adults are involved in a new project, known as ‘Posadnik study’. The head of Kitezh, Sergei Khlopenov, is sharing his management experience with the members of the community. The complex work of a community consists of administrative work, finer economic points, documentation and much more, and every day our adults are learning about all these things, without sparing a thought for self-pity.
As for the weather: the departure of the students for Moscow signaled global cold snap, as shown by the migration of people to Orion and heavy snowfall in Kitezh. So come to visit us, brighten up our days, and stop Kitezh from being covered in snow until spring! Stay in touch!
