 | Kitezh is a network of therapeutic communities that give children from orphanages loving foster families. The aim is to create a developing environment for the education and care of orphans and children in crisis. The first Kitezh village is in Kaluga Region, 300km south west of Moscow, and the second village, Kitezh-Orion, is located 60 Km in the same direction. Click to read a short history. | Family love, beautiful surroundings and an emphasis on individualized education all help children to heal the scars of early traumas, and build the personal, academic and vocational skills to become active contributing members of society. Our objectives: 1. Providing orphans with a foster family, a high quality education, and creating the necessary conditions for personal development. 2. Psychological and educational support for each foster family; uniting foster families in a holistic pedagogical complex for the more effective resolution of questions relating to raising children. 3. Consultation and education for foster parents and social workers. | | |

KITEZH BOOK IN ENGLISH IS LAUNCHED IN BRITAIN
Dimitry Morozov made two professional presentations to separate audiences in London at the beginning of April 2009 to introduce the English version of his book ‘Kitezh: a community approach to raising children in Russia’ followed by two presentations in Scotland, at Findhorn and at the Scotland Russia Institute in Edinburgh. Organised by Ecologia Youth Trust and supported by David Dean OBE, Therapeutic Education Consultant to Kitezh, his talks were well attended and well received in all places. In addition he gave a brief interview on BBC Radio Good Morning Scotland and we look forward to a feature article in The Scotsman shortly. Be first to comment this article | Views: 1466 |

Masha’s account of trip to England and Scotland |
|
So, who wants to go abroad, to see new countries, meet new people? For almost everyone this is huge festivity and opportunity to widen one’s knowledge! I, Masha Krivenkova, and the head of Orion, Masha Shibaeva, were fortunate enough this autumn to spend three weeks in the UK, travelling around England and Scotland. But it was not a celebratory holiday that awaited us, but hard work – visiting therapeutic organisations for children, gaining new experience which can help our settlement to work more professionally. Translation of article on the methods of “dramatherapy in Kitezh |
|
Children who are taken into foster families in Kitezh, have in the past lived through stressful situations and crises often connected with alcoholism, drug addiction and less frequently with the death of parents. Many of our children here in Kitezh faced such problems early in their childhoods. The consequences of such emotional experiences create an absence of basic trust in adults (or anyone), as well as aggression, and a weakening of the cognitive process.
